PLAYWRITING:10-MINUTE INSTANT PLAYS

10-Minute Instant Plays
In this experimental playwriting course, students will explore the craft of the 10-minute play, from drafting to revision to self-publication in the form of instant books. Finding the smallest way in, students will learn to work with precision, clarity, and brevity in short form, celebrating collaboration with a script that will be ready for rehearsal. Exercises in revision will set students up for continued work and expansion of their plays well into the future. Students will dive into the work of playwrights like Irene Fornes, Caryl Churchill, and more as they explore the art of short plays. Inspired by the playfulness of zines and DIY arts, students will experiment with scale and form, resulting in “self-published” plays that are ready to disseminate. The course will culminate in a public sharing of student work.
